First Impressions of Cck Down the Block: A Hilarious, Body-Positive Rom-Com

Thoughts on the book: I picked up C*ck Down the Block way back when it was first released, entirely drawn in by the title. Let’s face it—who wouldn’t be intrigued? The title hints at a fun and lighthearted rom-com vibe, which is always my jam. Add in a sporty backdrop (I’m not picky!) and a curvy FMC? Sign me up! It did take me forever to get around to actually reading it—because, like most of us, my TBR is out of control—but finally diving in felt like the right time. The story follows Beatrix, aka Trixie, a librarian with major girl-next-door vibes. She’s quirky, charming, and a true book lover, plus she’s rocking her body positivity. Trixie’s dealing with some Mean Girls-style baggage from her past, which is what leads her to rope in Chris, the local all-American QB, as her fake boyfriend. Chris, though? Oh, he’s smitten. Like, puppy-dog-in-love smitten. He’s been head over heels for Trixie for years, so when she asks him to help, he seizes the opportunity to make her his for real. The dynamic between them is adorable, and I loved how much heart Chris poured into his “fake” role. The side characters and family dynamics add a lot to the story, bringing warmth and humor. And let’s not forget the chickens—Luke Skycocker is a name I’ll never unsee! These moments gave the book some laugh-out-loud moments that kept it fresh. That said, the writing style didn’t fully click for me. While it’s super easy to read, it felt like having a conversation with a Gen Z personality, peppered with Millennial slang and TikTok-worthy phrasing. It didn’t ruin the story, but it’s not a style I’d rush back to. All in all, if you’re after a fluffy, fun rom-com with a hip edge, this is a solid pick. There are more books in the works featuring the family, so there’s plenty to look forward to if you enjoy this universe. For me, this is the kind of book I’d grab again when I need a quick, lighthearted escape.

Seamus by Katrina Vincent – A Fated to the Fae Romance!

Thoughts on the book: Say it with me: FATED MATES! Squeals with glee! Yes, I’m an absolute sucker for a fated mates storyline! I will debate this trope forever, and no, you’ll never change my mind—it’s the best, with some of the most fun storylines out there. When I discovered Katrina Vincent’s Fated to the Fae series, I devoured each book with the speed of a cheetah and the excitement of a five-year-old on Christmas morning. Since Seamus is the third book, you may want to read the first two before diving in, but it’s not strictly necessary. If you’re feeling rebellious or short on time, never fear—you can still enjoy this book as a standalone. Here’s a quick recap to set the scene! The Fae realm has a shortage of females due to the magical portals between worlds being closed. These closures weren’t accidental but deliberate, and over time, this led to a dangerously low number of females. In Book 1, a human woman accidentally stumbles into the Fae realm, followed by another in Book 2. Each discovers her fated mate through a process called the “Questioning” (think The Bachelorette but fae-style!). These women, it turns out, are half-fae, descended from ancient fae bloodlines. While many in the Fae realm see this as hope for a brighter future, some aren’t thrilled, and lingering tensions add a layer of intrigue from Book 2 into Book 3. Alright, let’s talk about the characters in Seamus! Seamus is our lovable cinnamon roll of a hero, and if you’ve read the earlier books, you’ll recognize him. He’s been in every story so far, and his sweet, thoughtful personality shines through each time. I was always disappointed when he didn’t make it further in the Questioning processes, which is why I adored this book! Seamus’s personality comes through in the best ways here—he’s even more thoughtful and surprisingly bold. And let’s just say, when the spice kicks in, he’s full of surprises! Then there’s Taylor, the sister of Sarah (the main character from Book 2). Taylor is such a fun character—independent, fierce, and with a wicked sense of humor. I wasn’t sure what to expect from her at first, but I quickly came to love her, especially as her depth and thoughtfulness emerged. By the end, she had secured her place as my favorite female character in the series! From chapter one, sparks fly between Seamus and Taylor, and the chemistry is unmistakable. Their fated connection is palpable, adding a bit of forbidden allure since dating isn’t the norm in the Fae realm. Given the scarcity of females, every pairing goes through the intense “Questioning.” There’s one scene where Seamus tackles a puzzle during the Questioning—I was on the edge of my seat, hands sweaty, praying he’d pass! Even with fated mates, the suspense of who will be chosen keeps you hooked. If you’re a fan of fantasy with fated mates, fae magic, and a dash of intrigue, I highly recommend grabbing Seamus and the first two books in the Fated to the Fae series. It’s a delightful mix of romance, adventure, and heartwarming moments, perfect as a lighter read between heavier books. I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment in this series and can’t wait to see which fae and human pairing Katrina Vincent has in store for us next! Recommended if You Enjoy: Book One in Fated to the Fae! Jane wakes up in a strange place surrounded by four sexy men that all have wings. Fairy wings. They tell her she isn’t in the human realm any she’s in Fairie. Oh, and none of them know how to help her get home to New York City, so Jane is stuck following the laws of the fae realm. This means starring in her own Questioning, a matchmaking event hosted for each single female as they come of mating age that gives the abundance of eligible males in the realm a chance at love while ensuring all females have total control of their destiny. But on her first evening in the fae realm, she meets Kiernan, Prince of the Summer Court. She can’t stop thinking about him, even if he’s standoffish and cold. Especially because every moment together has him warming up more and more. All too quickly, Jane’s watching a hundred men compete in The Questioning for the chance to be with her. She has every finger crossed that Kiernan might be the last man standing for her, but if he is, will she want to stay? Or will she keep trying to find the portal home? Book Two in Fated to the Fae! When Sarah is magically transported from New York City to Fairie, she’s shocked to discover the stories her great-grandmother told her are true. There’s another world and it’s filled with fairies. Oh, yeah, and she’s a descendant which makes her half-fae. When she learns about The Questioning, a fae dating game that’s a mix between The Bachelorette and Tinder on crack, she can’t wait to sign up for true love and her very own fate bond. She’s thrilled when The Questioning begins and there are 79 men vying for the chance to win her heart. But then Sarah overhears whispers about problems with The Questioning. Did someone mess with her Questioning? Because the last man standing is the last man she would choose to be hers.

Compromised for Christmas by Lizzie C Koz – A Festive Holiday Romance!

Thoughts on the book: Once upon a time, I was scrolling through social media, looking for new holiday book recommendations. Suddenly, a blurb for Compromised for Christmas by Lizzie C. Koz caught my eye. I can’t remember if it was Instagram or Threads, but something about it hooked me instantly, and I ran to pre-order this delightful holiday romp by a new author! Our heroine, Georgianna—or Gigi—is a spirited debutante with an overbearing mother who is determined to marry her off to a titled gentleman. Unfortunately for Gigi, the marriage prospects are less than inspiring, so she decides to take matters into her own hands. She sets out to ensnare a duke known for his wicked ways but instead finds herself in an unexpected (and hilarious) predicament with Fitz. Fitzwilliam, or Fitz, is our bumbling, endearing hero who is completely unprepared for Gigi and her boldness. Their first encounter is hilarious, especially when Fitz finds himself “rescued” by Gigi—who, due to her prior attempt with the duke, has her breasts exposed! Poor Fitz doesn’t stand a chance, and their whirlwind romance leads them to a quick marriage. Fitz’s earnest attempts to win Gigi’s heart are both endearing and comical. He’s determined to be everything he thinks she needs, both in and out of the bedroom, but he often stumbles along the way. His awkwardness and genuine efforts add to the charm of the story, and their miscommunications create just the right amount of tension. The chemistry between them is undeniable, and the steamy scenes are both plentiful and well-crafted, moving the relationship forward naturally while adding a bit of sizzle to the holiday season. One of my favorite aspects of the story is how it blends historical romance with a touch of modern holiday cheer. For example, there’s a family competition featuring “ugly waistcoats,” which reminded me fondly of every ugly Christmas sweater I’ve ever seen! While these touches add a contemporary flair that I personally enjoyed, I know not every reader may love this blend in a historical setting. For me, it just added to the festive fun. Overall, Compromised for Christmas is a fantastic, easy-to-read holiday treat! It has everything you’d want from a festive romance: a charming love story, laugh-out-loud moments, family dynamics, and plenty of holiday spirit. The spice level is just right, and the plot moves at a perfect pace for cozying up by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa. If you’re in the mood for a holiday romance that combines warmth, humor, and a bit of heat, I highly recommend giving this one a try. I can’t wait to dive into the next story in the Jennings Family saga, and I’ll definitely be revisiting Fitz and Gigi’s story before the season is over! Recommended Reading if you’re looking for:

Christmas Criminal by Ally Williams- A Spicy Holiday Romance!

Thoughts on the book: I know I’ve said this before, but I’m a total sucker for a good Hallmark movie. So, when I spotted The Christmas Criminal by Ally Williams, I was immediately intrigued! Imagine a classic Hallmark plot—small-town Christmas vibes, a dash of romance, and a cozy holiday setting—but with a spicy twist! This book has it all: a slow-burn romance, a little holiday mischief, and a major dose of chemistry. You can see why picking this one up was a no-brainer for me. Our heroine, Noelle, is the “Christmas Criminal” of the story, back in her hometown to serve community service. Caught causing some mischief by the local sheriff, she’s given an ultimatum: jail time or community service. Naturally, she chooses the latter, even though it means spending most of her time in her old high school, a place that brings up a lot of bad memories for her. But there’s a silver lining to this punishment: Nick, the hunky high school math teacher assigned to oversee her service hours. Nick is the dreamy math teacher we all wish we’d had—tall, charming, and with a surprising love for Christmas. He sees his role in community service as a chance to give back, but he definitely wasn’t expecting to be so drawn to Noelle, his mischievous “little criminal.” Their dynamic is playful, with Nick’s warm, Christmas-loving heart softening Noelle’s rough edges. What follows is a delicious slow-burn romance between two very different people who surprisingly complement each other perfectly. Noelle’s tough exterior and reluctance to embrace the holiday spirit slowly melt away under Nick’s influence, and their chemistry is undeniable. The banter between them is so well-written, and each interaction builds up the tension. When the sparks finally fly, the payoff is well worth the wait! The plot itself is fun, festive, and surprisingly thoughtful, with moments that feel like they’re straight out of a Christmas movie. Yes, it’s a little cheesy in the best way possible, but that’s part of the charm! The small-town setting, complete with Christmas lights, and festive decorations, really draws you in and makes you feel like you’re right there in the middle of it all. If you’re in the mood for an easy, cozy read with a holiday twist, The Christmas Criminal is a perfect choice. It’s the kind of story that works as a great palate cleanser or a quick Christmas read that’s sure to make you smile. The added spice just takes it up a notch, making it even more enjoyable. Honestly, it almost makes me want to get into a little mischief myself—who wouldn’t want to find themselves doing community service with a hunky math teacher? So, if you’re looking for a light-hearted, festive romance with a bit of heat and all the cozy Christmas vibes, give The Christmas Criminal a try. It’s a holiday treat you won’t regret! Romance Rewind | Love is Blind by Lynsay Sands – Laugh Out Loud Historical Romance Review

Thoughts on the book: Not to quote a reality TV show, but “Is love truly blind?” (Okay, I couldn’t resist!) If you’re like me and have been watching the latest season of Love is Blind, you know it can be a messy train wreck. But long before the TV drama, there was the historical romance novel, Love is Blind by Lynsay Sands. This book remains one of my all-time favorites, making me laugh out loud with every reread. Our heroine, Lady Clarissa, is being paraded around town by her stepmother, who definitely plays the evil villain in this story, as she searches for a suitable husband. Unfortunately, Clarissa’s stepmother believes her glasses are the reason she can’t attract a suitor, so she forbids her from wearing them. As a result, Clarissa experiences a series of mishaps, earning a reputation for being clumsy and vain. As someone who wears glasses myself, I completely sympathize with Clarissa—navigating the world without them is no picnic! Enter Adrian, the Earl of Mowbray, our knight in somewhat tarnished armor. He’s self-conscious about a scar he received during the war, but he thinks he’s found an ideal match in Clarissa—especially since she can’t see his scar clearly. Her clumsiness doesn’t faze him, and he quickly becomes her steadfast supporter. This book is packed with embarrassing yet hilarious moments! From mistaking someone’s lap for a table to accidentally setting a wig on fire, there’s no shortage of laugh-out-loud scenes before these two finally tie the knot. It’s one of those stories that always brings a smile to my face, and it firmly holds its place as one of my favorite funny historical romances. But even after the wedding, the challenges don’t end. Adrian’s insecurities about his scar mean that he doesn’t encourage Clarissa to wear her glasses. And with a few careless comments from her stepmother, Clarissa starts to worry that Adrian might find her unattractive if she wears them. However, as their relationship deepens, the two slowly begin to truly ‘see’ each other, and their love story blossoms. While historical accuracy takes a backseat in Love is Blind, the charm and humor of Clarissa and Adrian’s story make up for it. This book is simply a delightful romp that’s guaranteed to make you laugh. It’s a must-read for fans of lighthearted, feel-good romances! Recommended Reading if you’re looking for:

Graves Glenn Series by Erin Sterling: The Ex Hex, The Kiss Curse, & The Wedding Witch

If you make a purchase through these links, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. See my policies for further details. It’s spooky season, and Halloween is just around the corner! Whether you’re enjoying cooler temperatures and fall festivities like pumpkin patches, apple picking, or impatiently waiting for trick-or-treating, this series is the perfect way to pass the time. I fell in love with The Ex Hex when it first came out, and I was thrilled when the other books were released, letting me revisit not only my favorite characters but also my new favorite town, Graves Glenn. Set in fictional Georgia, Graves Glenn is a little tourist town where Halloween is the main attraction. It’s packed with spooky season festivities and cute shops offering all the merch you could possibly want. If that sounds like your kind of fun, let’s dive into the magical mayhem that is the Graves Glenn Series by Erin Sterling. The Ex Hex kicks off the series and follows Rhys Penhallow and Vivienne Jones on their misadventure-filled journey. These two are—no surprise here—exes with a bitter breakup in their past. When Vivienne was heartbroken, she added a little tequila and bubble bath into her grief, accidentally casting a hex on Rhys. Years later, Rhys returns to Graves Glenn to recharge the town’s magical ley lines, but things go haywire. Coincidence, or the result of Vivienne’s hex? As they quickly discover, the tequila-soaked curse is very real. Ghosts, talking cats, and magical mishaps unfold as Rhys and Vivi reconnect and build a stronger relationship. This book is such a fun read that you’ll want to revisit it every fall! Next up is The Kiss Curse, which follows Rhys’ brother, Lewellyn—or Wells—and Vivienne’s cousin, Gwyn Jones. I have a soft spot for oldest sibling stories, and Wells’ layered personality shines through as he moves to Graves Glenn with no intention of getting involved with Gwyn. And Gwyn? She’s a spunky heroine with a quirky style, making her my favorite character in the series. This book delivers some serious enemies-to-lovers vibes, all while keeping up the magical chaos that defines the Graves Glenn books. The tension between Wells and Gwyn is palpable, especially when her magic starts acting up just as he arrives. Is it his fault? Who knows! Plus, the glitter explosion scene makes me laugh every time. And we can’t forget Sir Purrcival, the true star of the book! The series wraps up with The Wedding Witch, focusing on Bowen Penhallow, the mysterious middle brother. From the start, Bowen intrigued me—he’s the quiet brother living in the mountains, with everyone joking about him being a werewolf. Naturally, I couldn’t wait to read his story when it dropped on my Kindle this season. Bowen is a bit of an enigma, but I was just as curious about the woman who would capture his heart. Enter Tasmyn, a character from the first book that I was delighted to see return! Their story brings a boss-employee dynamic with a magical twist, which added a fresh angle to the series. While this book leans more towards winter vibes than Halloween, it serves as a perfect bridge into the holiday season. And don’t worry—there’s still plenty of magical mayhem and a race against time to keep you hooked until the end. Whether you read them in order or pick them up as standalones, you can’t go wrong with any of these books. Each one is a complete story, but you’ll enjoy them more if you follow the whole set, as the characters make appearances in each other’s stories, and you get to see the couples’ relationships progress across the series. Graves Glenn is the true heart of the series, with its festive atmosphere and lively magic woven into every corner of the town. The way the fall festivities are described will make you wish Graves Glenn was a real place. Trust me—you’ll be dying to visit the town’s charming shops like Something Wicked just as much as I am!If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted spooky series with low angst, magical mischief, and connected characters, do yourself a favor and grab the Graves Glenn Series today. You won’t be disappointed!

Sins of the Wasteland: Fates Flames – Review of a Gripping Debut Novel

Thoughts on the book: Fates Flames introduces readers to Selene and Rylan, whose first encounter is brief but sets the tone for the layered, intricate plot that follows. The story then shifts to Rylan, an assassin on a mission that slowly unveils the deep political intrigue running through the book. Rylan’s task is far from simple—he must infiltrate and understand the growing threat the Dara family poses. As he navigates the dangerous terrain of espionage, the weight of his mission becomes increasingly clear. The kingdom, on the brink of a bold and bloody uprising, is a direct result of the Queen’s ruthless ambition. Her greed and hunger for power have left the kingdom in turmoil, and Rylan’s role is to gauge just how deep this revolution runs. Rylan, with his assassin’s precision and sense of duty, approaches his mission with full awareness of the stakes. His role is critical to the kingdom’s future, and the story deftly portrays the tension of a realm on the cusp of chaos. Political intrigue is at the heart of the plot, and the complexity of the Queen’s manipulations becomes more apparent as Rylan uncovers secrets and plots that stretch beyond simple rebellion.  Then we meet Selene, a poised and determined character who carries the weight of her family’s reputation on her shoulders. At first glance, Selene appears aloof, almost too distant to form a connection with Rylan. However, as the story progresses, layers of her personality are peeled back, revealing her intuition, confidence, and hidden vulnerability. Her initial detachment adds to the tension in her relationship with Rylan, as their interactions are charged with unspoken emotions and an underlying sense of danger. This is where the real magic of the story lies—the evolving relationship between Rylan and Selene. Initially, it felt like something was missing in their early interactions, as if a chapter of dialogue or context was skipped. However, once the tension between them begins to build, it becomes almost unbearable. The forbidden romance aspect is at the heart of their dynamic, and each encounter between them brims with tension, as if they’re constantly teetering on the edge of being discovered. The stakes are incredibly high, and every scene between them had me holding my breath. The political intrigue only amplifies this tension. As Rylan and Selene’s relationship deepens, they’re both trapped in the larger conflict between revolutionaries and the crown. Rylan’s mission puts him in direct opposition to Selene’s world, creating a deliciously tense push and pull between duty and desire. This intertwining of romance and revolution makes the book even more compelling, as every personal moment is shadowed by the larger political stakes at play. As the story rushes toward its conclusion, the pacing ramps up, leading to a heart-pounding ending that left me reeling. The final twist is a true mind-bender, shattering expectations and stunned. The conclusion feels both complete and a setup for what’s to come, with soft but intriguing hints at the next phase of this gripping saga. In Fates Flames, the writing shines, particularly in the vivid imagery that draws readers into the world of political intrigue and forbidden romance. The stakes are high, the tension is palpable, and the emotional rollercoaster will keep you glued to the page. This is not a book you can start and stop—it demands to be devoured in one sitting. If you’re looking for a story that combines intense romance with political stakes and a world teetering on the edge of revolution, Fates Flames is a must-read. First Impression: Grumpy Romance by Nia Arthurs

Thoughts on the book: I borrowed this book through my Amazon Prime membership, and the blurb had me intrigued. I tend to love an arrogant, broody billionaire who’s a bit too alpha. Add in the fact that he’s set to be an overprotective father? Sign me up! Kenya Jones, the main female character (MFC), has had her fair share of bad luck in love. Things get even worse when she meets Holland Alistair, the main male character (MMC), on what might be the worst day of her life. That first meeting instantly grabs Holland’s attention, but he’s left wondering why what he knows about Kenya doesn’t line up with how she acted. What follows is a clash of strong personalities that had me wondering if Kenya would ever admit to her feelings for Holland. The romance is set mostly in the workplace, with Kenya being hired as Holland’s second assistant. Their professional relationship adds to the slow burn, as neither one wants to cross that employee/employer line. I loved how the MMC fell first and hated every minute of it! Kenya is headstrong and stubborn, standing her ground with Holland from the start, which I loved (I’m always here for a strong female lead). However, her stubbornness got a little repetitive, and I found myself wishing she’d soften toward Holland just a bit earlier—especially before meeting his daughter. When Kenya does meet Holland’s daughter, she softens toward him almost too quickly, making it feel a bit unrealistic. Also, while this is a slow burn romance, the “fireworks” are pretty tame, with most of the steamy scenes fading to black. So, if you’re looking for something sizzling hot in the bedroom, this book may not be for you. There’s also a subplot that drove me a little nuts! Kenya’s family is… well, a real piece of work. For a good portion of the book, her family dynamic adds to the emotional angst, but about two-thirds of the way through, it kind of vanishes after a big confrontation. I was disappointed not to see a resolution earlier on. Then, in the last chapter, it randomly resurfaces, which felt out of place. It gave me serious Cinderella vibes, but I ended up more annoyed than anything with that whole subplot. The final chapter also briefly introduces the two main characters for the next book in the series. I didn’t mind that, but I wasn’t compelled to continue with the series. While I enjoyed this book and the characters, I know myself well enough to pass on the sequels. In summary, if you’re looking for an angsty, emotional read with an enemies-to-lovers and billionaire trope, this one’s worth picking up. But if you’re in the mood for something super steamy or a light-hearted rom-com, you may want to pass on this one. Recommended Reading if you’re look for:

Men in Kilts by Katie MacAlister – Highland Adventure and Laugh-Out-Loud Romance

Thoughts on the book: This week’s Romance Rewind is one of my all-time favorite books. I’ve read and re-read it multiple times over the years, and it never fails to make me laugh out loud or smile as I revisit these beloved characters. Katie MacAlister will always have a spot on my bookshelf for her genuinely funny books that have brought me joy for years now! This book is a classic romantic comedy, complete with an embarrassing meet-cute that kicks off the story. Kathie, a mystery writer attending a conference overseas, is battling jet lag (who doesn’t know the feeling?) and ends up passing out in the lobby of her hotel. After a much-needed but drool-inducing nap (yes, really!), she startles awake, realizing she slept far longer than she intended. Scanning the conference attendees, her eyes land on one hunky guy propping up a wall—enter our charming Scotsman, Iain, who just so happened to witness her gloriously embarrassing nap! Kathie and Iain hit it off quickly in a case of insta-lust—and really, who can blame her? We all know a Scottish accent can work wonders! Thankfully, Iain feels the same, and he asks Kathie out for a date that leads to plenty of sparks flying. As the conference wraps up, their relationship takes off, and Kathie decides to extend her stay in Scotland to spend more time with Iain. Once in Scotland, the relationship progresses quickly, and hilarity ensues with these two. The narrative focuses heavily on Kathie—her thoughts, emotions, and perspective—though it’s written in an omniscient style. Iain, unfortunately, doesn’t get as much emotional depth, which makes him feel a bit flat, even though he’s the hunky Scot we’re all rooting for. While I loved how their relationship developed, I did miss getting more of Iain’s perspective. The supporting characters in this book will also either win your heart or make you want to throttle them—there are definitely a couple who land in the “I hate this character” category. Overall, this is a cute, feel-good story that will absolutely make you laugh, and it’s an easy, breezy read. If you’re in need of a mood boost, crack this one open and enjoy! Fall I Want by Lyra Parish-Small Town, Autumn-Inspired, Billionaire Romcom

Thoughts on this book: ‘Tis the fall season, which means I’m diving into all the fall reads! When I saw this book featured in Lyra’s newsletter—a billionaire romance with small-town vibes—I was instantly sold. If you’ve read any of my previous reviews, you know I’m obsessed with the billionaire trope, so it’s no surprise this made my must-read list. One morning, in walks Mr. Dreamy in the flesh, and the sparks immediately start flying! Alexander, a.k.a. Mr. Dreamy, feels the magic too but fights against it. He’s not here for love—he’s here to lay low, which is why he doesn’t correct Autumn’s assumption about his name. Despite their rocky start, their relationship progresses quickly with fake dates that feel very real, exploring a spooky mansion, and attending fall events that make you wish you could live in this charming little town! As they work through their pasts and heal from previous relationships, their love story becomes sweet and endearing. Towards the end, the romance does get a little too sweet, but it fits their characters so well that I didn’t mind.
