Always the nerdy girl, never the girlfriend Until her cocky best friend and his *ahem* rooster take charge.

Look, I've had it bad for the girl with all the curves next door forever. She turned me down in high school and since I'm not a total douchecanoe, I lusted after her all by myself in my shower, and we stayed just friends for years.

Now she's the adorkable librarian next door and I'm the star quarterback of the best pro football team in the league.

So when she asks me to be her fake date to her all-girls school reunion I am totally down to show her off to the mean girls who bullied her back then so they can see just how incredible she is.

I'll be the best boyfriend they've ever seen. The best fake boyfriend that is.

Until I find out from her slightly-stalkery classmates that she still has her v-card. I don't see how that is even possible. Not with how sexy and sweet she is. Could it be because she knows she belongs with me?

This curvy girl and football quarterback sports romance has a baddie plus-size woman who knows her own worth and a Bridgertons-meets-American-Football family you'll wish you were a part of.

Thoughts on the book:

I picked up C*ck Down the Block way back when it was first released, entirely drawn in by the title. Let’s face it—who wouldn’t be intrigued? The title hints at a fun and lighthearted rom-com vibe, which is always my jam. Add in a sporty backdrop (I’m not picky!) and a curvy FMC? Sign me up!

It did take me forever to get around to actually reading it—because, like most of us, my TBR is out of control—but finally diving in felt like the right time.

The story follows Beatrix, aka Trixie, a librarian with major girl-next-door vibes. She’s quirky, charming, and a true book lover, plus she’s rocking her body positivity. Trixie’s dealing with some Mean Girls-style baggage from her past, which is what leads her to rope in Chris, the local all-American QB, as her fake boyfriend.

Chris, though? Oh, he’s smitten. Like, puppy-dog-in-love smitten. He’s been head over heels for Trixie for years, so when she asks him to help, he seizes the opportunity to make her his for real. The dynamic between them is adorable, and I loved how much heart Chris poured into his “fake” role.

The side characters and family dynamics add a lot to the story, bringing warmth and humor. And let’s not forget the chickens—Luke Skycocker is a name I’ll never unsee! These moments gave the book some laugh-out-loud moments that kept it fresh.

That said, the writing style didn’t fully click for me. While it’s super easy to read, it felt like having a conversation with a Gen Z personality, peppered with Millennial slang and TikTok-worthy phrasing. It didn’t ruin the story, but it’s not a style I’d rush back to.

All in all, if you’re after a fluffy, fun rom-com with a hip edge, this is a solid pick. There are more books in the works featuring the family, so there’s plenty to look forward to if you enjoy this universe. For me, this is the kind of book I’d grab again when I need a quick, lighthearted escape.
